Lauren Johnson

Lauren Johnson is the Director of Communications and Community Outreach for the Polk County Housing Trust Fund. She is responsible for developing and leading strategic initiatives, translating research and housing policy into informational understanding. She also manages community relations, events, video production, social media and media relations - and was a summer intern for PCHTF two years before joining the team full time.

Lauren serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, Des Moines Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, and on the Steering Committee for the United Way 21-Day Equity Challenge. In 2019, she served as the State of Iowa Director for Our Homes, Our Votes: 2020, a non-partisan project to urge presidential candidates to address the affordable housing crisis. This initiative was in partnership with the National Low-Income Housing Coalition.

Lauren received two bachelor’s degrees from the College of Charleston in Political Science and Music and served as a member of the American Politics Research Team at the College of Charleston, with two papers being published in the journal Research & Politics in 2018 and 2019. She also conducted research on education and affordable housing, socioeconomic status in the 2016 election, and political participation among millennials.
