Staff Attends IFA’s HousingIowa Conference
Annual event held September 4-6 in Coralville
PCHTF Executive Director Eric Burmeister and Research Intern Josh Hellyer, as well as Board members Debbie Fisher, Lance Henning, and Christine Hensley attended the Iowa Finance Authority’s annual HousingIowa Conference beginning on September 4. The group of 450 other affordable housing advocates, lenders, developers, and service providers met at the Coralville Marriott, marking the first time that the conference was held outside of Des Moines.
The conference featured three days of educational sessions and trainings hosted by local and national speakers focusing on rental housing, homeownership, and homelessness. Keynote speaker Dr. Elliot Eisenberg kicked off the conference Wednesday morning with a high-energy look at housing statistics, and Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds spoke at lunch the same day. Several Polk County leaders presented as well, including Anawim Housing President Russ Frazier, who discussed best practices in Shelter Plus Care with a panel of service providers, as well as Deirdre Henriquez of Primary Health Care and Tony Timm of Central Iowa Shelter & Services, who offered a two-day SOAR training session.
Polk County organizations were also well represented during the awards ceremony Thursday morning. Community Housing Initiatives took home an award for Multifamily Housing Development, Central Iowa Shelter & Services won an award for Special Needs Housing Development, and Wells Fargo was named as an Outstanding Lender.
The Polk County Housing Trust Fund would like to thank IFA for hosting another educational and entertaining conference, and looks forward to next year’s conference at the Des Moines Marriott, September 3-5, 2014.
