Spotlight on West Bank

Giving back makes this company "West Bank Strong"

Spotlight on West Bank

West Bank takes center stage this month as PCHTF’s featured donor spotlight.  A business that opened its first branch in 1893, West Bank purports not to be the biggest bank.  Instead they pride themselves on earning their customers’ trust and not hesitating to leave a mark for community betterment.  The “West Bank Strong” culture means giving back with time, treasures, and talents.

For PCHTF, this has taken the form of grants and volunteer leadership.  A total of $95,000 during the past ten years has directly funded supportive services and programs that impact the lives of low income people and help lead them to self-sufficiency.

All communities West Bank serves are diverse.  An important part of West Bank culture is giving back to the communities they serve.  West Bank is proud of the fact that their employees give so many hours of volunteer work and annually serve on over 80 boards of non-profit organizations.

This culture contributes greatly to their strong performance. West Bank has been recognized in Sandler O’Neill & Partners’ list of 'All Star' small cap banks for the fourth consecutive year.  West Bank was also named among Bank Director’s Nifty Fifty for best use of capital and ranked 19th Best Community Bank by American Banker Magazine.

In the area of affordable housing, Luke Mohlenhoff, VP/Construction Lending Officer reflects, “A healthy economic environment covers a wide range of income levels and as such requires a broad spectrum of housing.”  West Bank believes in helping people make financially prudent decisions.  This means that affordable housing addresses more than just low income housing.  We want all citizens in the community to make housing choices that do not leave them rent burdened or house poor.”

Is affordable housing good for business, Luke was asked?  He missed not a beat with his response.  “The economic success of the areas we serve is strongest when all members of the current and future workforce have access to affordable housing available near where they work.  West Bank supports the work of the Polk County Housing Trust Fund as a leading voice and advocate for affordable housing in the greater Des Moines area."

Thank you Luke.  We could not have said it better nor more eloquently.  PCHTF is honored to be the recipient of “West Bank Strong” and of your tremendous capacity to build ours.

West Bank is an Equal Housing Opportunity lender and a member of FDIC.
