New Senior Housing Project Now Accepting Applications

The Polk County Housing Trust Fund is pleased to pass along information on one of its funded projects.  In 2009/10 the Trust fund allocated $100,000.00 in the form of a low interest loan to a corporation established by Christ the King Catholic Parish for construction of 13 units serving senior residents with incomes less than or equal to 60% of Polk County’s Average Median Income, 12 units serving residents with incomes less than or equal to 50% of Polk County’s AMI and 3 units serving residents with incomes less than or equal to 30% of Polk County’s AMI.  The complete Community Advisory from Anawim Housing, the project’s manager follows:

Des Moines, Iowa, November 16, 2011- Christ the King Catholic Parish is accepting applications for their new senior housing units on the south side of Des Moines.

The facility is designed for people 55 and older whose income level is between $26,000 and $33,000. Each apartment will include a dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer, and the building will have common rooms, a media center and storage, as well as garden patios.

Des Moines non-profit organization Anawim Housing, whose founder the late Sister Stella Neill was instrumental in partnering the two organizations, will manage the apartments.

“They have a heart for the type of thing we are doing which is to help senior citizens who are of limited income,” says Pastor Monsignor Frank Bognanno, who is on the Christ the King board of directors.

The project began Nov. 21, 2010 and is set to be completed in February 2012. To apply to live in the new apartments, e-mail ctkhousingservices@gmail.com or call (515)285-2888.
