Clark Commons Is Ready for its Close-Up

HOME, Inc. will hold an open house on Wednesday, February 25th from 3 to 6 pm at their Clark Commons Project. The project, which is 5 units of permanent supportive housing, is located at the southwest corner of 13thand Clark Streets (1303-1305 Clark and 1510, 1512-1516 13th).

HOME, Inc.’s mission is to create opportunities for quality, affordable housing to stabilize families and the neighborhoods in which they live. Clark Commons was created to provide affordable, permanent rental housing for the women and children transitioning from the House of Mercy. The House of Mercy provides transitional housing and a variety of supportive  services to homeless women and their children.

A major obstacle for anyone leaving a transitional housing facility is locating affordable housing.  According to the 2014 CBRE Hubbell Apartment Survey, the average rent for a 3 bedroom unit in greater Des Moines is $1,034.  The average rent for a similar tax credit unit is $830. HOME, Inc.’s 1,200 square foot, three bedroom units will rent for $550 per month.  The units include all appliances including washing machines and dryers.

HOME, Inc. wishes to thank the Mondamin-Presidential and King-Irving neighborhood associations for all of their help and support.  Financial support in making this project possible was provided by City of Des Moines Community Development Department, Polk County Housing Trust Fund, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Bankers Trust Company, Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and ASK Studio
