Before & After

Rebuilding Together/Ryan Companies

An 89-year old veteran of the Korean War and his wife had the good fortune of a team of volunteers descending on their home for Wells Fargo National Rebuilding Day in Central Iowa May 4. The Overton’s home at 4129 9th Street in Des Moines is this month’s Before & After as shared through photos of the work as it was being done.

Keith Overton helped build the house where he and his wife live in 1957 and in addition to being a veteran of war also served 17 years in vehicle maintenance at Camp Dodge and worked at Bob Brown Chevrolet for 17 years in the body shop.  Theirs is one of 32 homes in the Greater Des Moines area that received the benefit of some 700 volunteer workers who braved unseasonably chilly temperatures (40 degrees in May?!) and lengthy to-do lists for the 18thannual work day.

For the Overton’s the work on their home included – painting, gutters, storm doors, new kitchen floor, repairs to plumbing for kitchen, bathroom and basement, safety grab bar in bathroom, smoke detectors and siding.  A thank you to the crew from Ryan Companies for allowing us to share this PowerPoint created for their volunteers.
