Anawim Housing

Des Moines, Iowa, September 14, 2012 – Affordable housing provider Anawim Housing was named the top fundraising organization participating in Birdies for Charity this year and received a donation of $65,220.

Birdies for Charity is an annual fundraising effort that occurs during the Principal Charity Classic golf tournament. Anawim Housing participated in the event for the first time last year, raising just over $5,000.

“Birdies for Charity has been a great fundraising opportunity for us,” said Anawim Housing President Russ Frazier. “We are thankful for everyone who made donations to Anawim Housing through this effort and for the significant match that we also received. Raising money through Birdies for Charity was a very worth-while effort.”

To participate in the event, Anawim’s supporters either pledged to donate for every birdie that occurred during the tournament or made a flat donation. Anawim was also awarded a 25 percent match provided by Sammons Financial Group, and $2,500 additional bonus bucks for being one of the top 25 fundraising charities.

“Anawim Housing has been in our top 25 for the past two years, and in fact this year was the top earning organization,” said Principal Charity Classic Tournament Director Jamie Alt. “It is great to see strong dedication from those who support their mission.”

Anawim will use the funds to support their Family Services program which helps families with children maintain stable housing. This fall, Anawim will open 28 more units, including 20 on the east side of Des Moines. By the end of the year, Anawim Housing will break ground on 60 more units.
