Anawim Housing

Anawim Housing opened the doors of its first permanent rental housing unit in 1988.  Since then Anawim has expanded to 97 properties and more than 240 rental units.  Anawim will soon move into its new headquarters located in the heart of its main property areas at 21st and Forest Avenue.  This multi-use building will not only house Anawim offices but will also have six apartment units adding to Anawim’s expanding and diverse housing stock.

Founder and Executive Director Sister Stella Neill recently retired from Anawim Housing and is succeeded by Russ Frazier.

“I look forward to continuing to build upon the foundation of solid organization as we work to meet the needs of our community,” says Russ Frazier, President.  “Anawim’s strength is in its people and partners.  We have succeeded thus far in our history with this formula and we will continue to rely on this strategy as we move ahead with the organization’s next phase.”

Anawim Housing has been making affordable and safe housing available to low-income families since its beginning.  Today, Anawim Housing not only owns properties but also manages an additional 150 program-based properties most of which are associated with the Shelter Plus Care and the Rapid Re-Housing Programs.  Shelter Plus Care is designed to combine rental assistance with matching supportive services to homeless households with disabilities of mental illness, substance abuse or HIV/AIDS, or a combination of the three.
